Ryan was a very special boy in our lives. He has left an everlasting gap that will never be filled. Here is my account of when Ryan spread his wings and left this earth for heaven.
On the afternoon of 30/08/98 ryan left the house to go to our local shop as he often did to buy his sweets. On his return he went to the top of the street to play on the green with his friends.
At the time i was nursing my mum who had suffered a stroke.
Tea time arrived and Ryan had not yet returned from the green. It was the end of the summer holidays and still light outside, and there was plenty of kids laughter heard from the green so it never occured to me that Ryan was not there. Our little girl was 2 years old and I bathed her as part of her bedtime routine. I went to the green to call Ryan in and he was not there. Other kids had said that Ryan had gone down the road with one of his friends. Myself and a friend decided to have a walk around our estate to find him. This was to no avail.
Fear swept through me as i realised my son was missing.
I phoned the police to inform them and they were at my house within minutes. Police officers went out to search along with friends and neighbours from our estate. The helicopter was also brought out to help with the search.
The search continued through the night and it was on our local news in the morning. My mind was a blur and I believed that Ryan would come strolling through the door asking why there was so many police around.
At approx 10.45am the police officer who was involved in the search for Ryan from the start came to the house to inform us that a body had been found.
It wasn't until 4pm that afternoon that we were taken to the hospital to identify him.
Ryan had fallen through a skylight window of the community centre 2 minutes away from our house.
It's been 10 years now and there is not a minute of every day that we dont share a thought for our very precious son.
Ryan, we miss you so much.
